Across the globe, many nations have been celebrating “Code Week”, especially African nations. In October alone, 33 countries in Africa celebrated “Code Week”! Women In Africa Initiative is an entity that believes in the girl child because they are the future African women entrepreneurs of tomorrow but also our future leaders. Hence, it is essential to Women In Africa Initiative that we empower young girls with the tools, skills, and resources they need to navigate the world as rising leaders. We use this opportunity to salute all 37 African nations who hosted Africa Code Week.
In the beginning of October, WIA Code hosted a coding session in partnership with Orange, Sonatel, and Shine To Lead, for teenage girls in Dakar to learn more about coding and to improve their skills. Thanks to WIA Ambassador of Senegal, Solange Rokhya, WIA Council Member, Nayé Bathily, Founder of Shine to Lead, and WIA Project Manager, Seynabou Thiam, the project is able to be successfully run. Twenty young girls were able to spend a Saturday afternoon learning how to code with the WIA Coding team and other experts. In the future, we hope to see WIA Code present in many more African nations.
