Grace MZUMARA is a Medical Doctor and a Child Health Policy Researcher at the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust.
She was a Student Researcher and Principal Investigator at the District Hospitals of Malawi (2013-2014) before becoming a Senior Medical Officer in the Pediatric Department at Mzimba District Hospital of Malawi in 2017. In 2019, she joined the University of Oxford and was a research intern in the Tropical Medecine Research Unit (MORU). She joined the Molecular Epidemiology for Vaccination Policy project as an intern in September 2019. During the MEVacP Project, Grace worked on curating the Haemophilus influenzae genome database and studied the genetic epidemiology of Haemophilus influenzae using the Public Databases for Molecular Typing and Microbial genome diversity (PubMLST). She is now a pre-PhD Intern with the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome trust, Clinical research programme, child health research group where she is researching antimicrobial stewardship and health policies in Malawi.
Passionate about the health, educational and economic rights of the girl child in Malawi, she believes in promoting equality in health care delivery and in representing the health priorities of low- and middle-income countries in international health policies by improving health service delivery to women in her region and the management of and survival rates for Pediatric Non-Communicable Diseases and the Double Burden of diseases affecting Malawian Children. Grace MZUMARA has also worked with charities that support women’s health and girl education, namely, the Chatinkha Maternity Care Support and the UKANI Malawi, ‘Breaking Red Project’.
For her commitment to designing and implementing solutions to challenges in global health and development, Grace MZUMARA was awarded the young African leadership award for public management by the Young African Leadership initiative in South Africa and worked with the initiative by supporting the training of Young Leaders as the elected Alumni Advisory Board Representative for Malawi. While at Oxford, Grace represented Malawi as a student fellow at the 2019 Skoll World Forum for social entrepreneurship.
Grace MZUMARA is a published author and has written on important global health topics as the COVID-19 pandemic, Malaria and Antimicrobial resistance.
She holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Malawi and a University of Oxford Graduate, under the University of Oxford-Weidenfeld and Hoffman Scholarship, where she holds a Master of Science (MSc) International Health and Tropical Medicine.
