As a Motswana woman, born and raised in rural Botswana, her roots are the foundation of her professional journey. Growing up amidst the HIV/AIDS epidemic profoundly shaped her life, steering her towards a career in public health.
Her path to the UN and into public health hasn’t been linear. With a predominantly business background and after pursuing an MBA in Japan, she met inspiring African students who broadened her understanding of our continent’s vast potential.
The COVID-19 pandemic was a turning point for her career. Returning to Botswana to a healthcare system still reeling from the HIV/AIDS crisis, she felt a renewed urgency to contribute. Her experiences in graduate school and the pandemic empowered her to transition from the stock exchange to public health, and recently joining UNFPA to work on sexual and reproductive rights.
Her role at UNFPA goes beyond risk management; it is about understanding the ripple effects and synergies between what they do and other sectors. While the UN offers a rich environment for collaboration, she is keen to explore alternative approaches and learn from initiatives outside this system, so she is excited about becoming a laureate of the WIA Young Leaders program!
This program, designed specifically for women, is a unique opportunity and a shot for them as young women to redesign a world that hasn’t always been built for women, creating equal opportunities for future generations.
