Melissa Kabango is a corporate lawyer with 8 years of experience in the financial services sector. After graduating from Nelson Mandela University, she started her career in 2013 at FDH Financial Holdings Limited, a financial services company with interests in banking, money bureau, discount house and financial advisory. Between 2015 and 2016, she was part of the legal team that helped with the merger, acquisition and stabilization of Malawi Savings Bank Limited by FDH Bank Limited. In 2017, Melissa Kabango was appointed to establish the Special Recoveries Unit to recover non performing loans for written off portfolio of FDH Bank. She is passionate about for working with organizations committed to the fight for women’s rights providing support and training in entrepreneurship for underprivileged women. In 2016, she was elected as Secretary of the Women Lawyers Association – Blantyre Chapter, an organisation that provides legal services for underprivileged women. She is currently part of Ukani Girls, an organisation that deals with empowerment of women, gender equality and helps to equip young women with entrepreneurship skills, training in tailoring and menstrual health and hygiene management. In addition, Melissa Kabango serves as an advisor to FEM an organisation based in Blantyre which focuses on providing funding and training for young women entrepreneurs.
